Andrew Garfield has named his best Spider-Man — choosing a favourite among Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and himself — and his pick may raise eyebrows.

Time for a bit of Spider-Man bickering, courtesy of Andrew Garfield himself. If you ever wanted the man’s personal Spider-Man leaderboard, he’s finally coughed up an answer – and it’s probably not the order the internet would pick.

Garfield Picks His Favourites

Garfield, now 43, turned up for a chat on Capital’s radio show and, predictably, the host didn’t waste time. Straight out with the classic: which Spider-Man is actually the best? He had to rank Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and, somewhat awkwardly, himself – top to bottom.

He didn’t dodge. Garfield put it plainly – and there’s no ego trip here. His choice for the peak slot is all down to school-era nostalgia. Before he was in the Spidey suit himself, he was in drama school, practising Maguire’s lines in front of his mirror. So, for Garfield, the line-up is:

‘Tobey’s always going to be my number one.’

Holland, meanwhile, gets some high marks for fitting the MCU era to a tee, but Garfield still slots himself in last place. The final order, straight from the man himself: Tobey, Tom, then Andrew.

The Evolution of Big-Screen Spider-Men

Now, for anyone who blinked and missed the last two decades of Spider-flicks, here’s a quick refresher. Tobey Maguire kicked it all off in Sam Raimi’s early noughties Spider-Man trilogy, launching the webbed wonder’s live-action superstardom in 2002 and finishing in 2007. Enter Garfield, who took the baton for The Amazing Spider-Man reboot in 2012 and had another swing at it in the sequel two years later.

But it’s Tom Holland who’s probably cemented himself as the MCU’s definitive Peter Parker. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War, he landed his own run of blockbusters, starting with Homecoming, rolling into Far From Home, and then meeting his predecessors in No Way Home – a nostalgic treat if there ever was one.

And Holland’s latest dose of Spidey, Brand New Day, has smashed it at the box office since release. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film’s not only pulled in more than $2.5 billion worldwide, but it’s also edged out Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film ever in North America.

Brand New Day is now the biggest box office hit ever in North America, overtaking Force Awakens.
