Netflix is cooking up a New York comedy collision as Amy Poehler teams with Summer House standouts Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo to play fictionalized versions of themselves, with Poehler producing while the streamer develops the series.

Alright, if you’re one of those people who can’t get enough of reality stars making the jump to scripted comedy—or just curious about the oddball crossovers in TV these days—here’s something you probably didn’t see coming. Amy Poehler, yes, that Amy Poehler, is teaming up with Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo (those Summer House folks) for a new Netflix comedy series. File this under collaborations I wouldn’t have predicted on a bet.

Poehler Producing, Berner and DeSorbo Starring—Wait, What?

So here’s how this thing is shaking out:

  • Amy Poehler is on board as producer, backing the whole shebang through her Paper Kite Productions. She’s got Kim Lessing producing right alongside her.
  • Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo—legit best friends IRL, if you’ve listened to their podcast—are the stars and also co-writers. They’re playing, well, fictionalized versions of themselves trying to get their life together in New York. (Yes, it’s that kind of meta.)
  • Kay Cannon (who knows her way around big-screen comedy, see: Pitch Perfect) is co-writing with the duo and handling showrunner duty.
  • Universal Television is the studio behind it.

The Origin Story: From Bravo to Netflix

This whole project started with Berner and DeSorbo. They met on the job years before ever appearing on TV, then went on to Summer House—jumping in at season 3, and riding that Bravo rollercoaster through the drama. For context: Berner peaced out after season 5 to focus on stand-up; DeSorbo stuck around through season 9, then pivoted hard into fashion-influencing.

Somewhere along the way, they launched the Giggly Squad podcast (which, in case you missed it, scored Podcast of the Year at the iHeartPodcast Awards). And now, here we are… Netflix show, actual scripts, the works.

Wait, There’s More: Side Projects and Stand-up

These two aren’t exactly slowing down. Both are showing up in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy, Not Suitable For Work. Berner has gone full tilt on her comedy, recently opening for a Poehler and Tina Fey stand-up gig in May 2025—which, if you’re counting, came after this whole Netflix deal was put in motion.

Berner broke the news herself on social, captioning her update with:

Good day to be a giggler

It’s rare to watch reality TV folks land a major comedy project like this, especially with Amy Poehler in the mix—and stranger yet, to see Netflix betting on a show that’s basically a fictional spin on two people’s real friendship, written by the people living it. At the absolute minimum, this thing’s going to be inescapable on your algorithm as soon as it lands. Get ready.
