Jason Momoa is reuniting with Amazon MGM — but not how you’d expect. Fresh off The Wrecking Crew, he’s lining up Shots! Shots! Shots!, an action film the studio has just picked up.

Jason Momoa is jumping back in with Amazon MGM, but he’s not exactly repeating himself. If you were expecting another straightforward action epic, you might be in for a bit of a swerve. His next project with the studio—after this spring’s streaming hit The Wrecking Crew—is an action comedy with a title that’s hard not to say in a party voice: Shots! Shots! Shots!

A Project Bouncing Between Studios

Here’s how this all came about: Universal originally picked up Shots! Shots! Shots! back in 2022, based on a script from Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. Apparently, they liked it enough to get the ball rolling… then immediately jammed the brakes on, thanks to classic big studio hand-wringing over budgets. The project spent a while gathering dust until Universal chucked it into turnaround (which is exec-speak for 'maybe not, after all').

Amazon MGM swooped in to save it pretty much as soon as they finished working with Momoa on The Wrecking Crew. Given that film’s streaming numbers, you can’t really blame them for wanting to keep the party going.

Who's Behind the Scenes?

  • Jason Momoa – in talks to star and produce
  • Jonathan Eirich (Rideback) – producing (they’re the lot behind Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch remakes, so they clearly know big-budget family fare)
  • Jeff Fierson – also producing
  • Writers: Matt Mider & Kevin Burrows (executive producing too, with Rideback’s Ryan Halprin)

Plot… as Much as Anyone Knows

Surprise, surprise: Shots! Shots! Shots! is one of those films where all the official details are being kept secret—for now. What’s leaking out is that it’s a family-centric adventure, and the general mood puts it somewhere in between True Lies, Taken, and The Lost City. That’s a mash-up I’d like to see, frankly—a bit of spy spectacle, some dad-on-a-mission energy, maybe with a jungle or two thrown in?

Tangled Schedule, Unclear Starting Date

If you’re hoping to see Momoa back in action with this one soon, best keep your expectations in check. The film is still in development, it’s not going in front of cameras next, and Momoa’s plate is already looking pretty full. He’s just dropped out of Sony’s Helldivers (which was meant to shoot this summer), so presumably there’s still some diary wrangling to be done.

What’s Momoa Actually Doing Next?

No rest for the muscly: he’s playing Lobo—a fan-favourite antihero—in Supergirl for DC Studios, out June 26. He’s got Street Fighter with Legendary hitting theatres 16 October, and if you’re a Dune fan, he’ll turn up in Dune: Part Three when that lands on 18 December.

For anyone keeping score on the business side: Momoa, plus writers Mider and Burrows, are all repped by the agency WME, with Silver Lake Entertainment also in the mix for the scribes.
