All five seasons of Hacks are getting a Blu-ray box, and its creators asked for it

People used to treat streaming libraries, especially the big prestige TV ones, as if they were etched in stone and bound to be around forever. In reality, the past few years have turned that on its head. Warner Bros. Hacks Gets the Box Set Treatment

The team behind Hacks—Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky—are obviously in that camp. Their five-season Emmy-winner is finally getting the physical release they've been championing for years. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced a proper Blu-ray box set is coming this autumn, just in time for Christmas shopping. That'll be all five seasons, bundled with never-before-seen extras: think 1080p picture, show’s 2.00:1 aspect, English SDH subs—the usual kit for a prestige TV set these days. The news lands a few weeks before Hacks' last shot at the Emmys on 14 September 2026, where the show’s final season is up for a staggering 24 nominations in the comedy categories.

Here's how Aniello, Downs, and Statsky put it in their joint statement for Variety: "We are so excited the complete series will be available on Blu-ray. Deborah Vance knew the power of physical media when she sold her special on QVC, so we know she'd be proud. It will also include bloopers and deleted scenes! We hope one day in the distant future children will huddle up in their bunkers and take their minds off the robot wars by laughing and crying at this powerful tale of dark mentorship and female creative collaboration"

Not exactly the standard sales pitch, but they've always been a self-aware bunch. The nod to physical discs being the comedy legacy approved by their fictional stand-up legend is well on brand.

'We Just Want the Show to Survive'

Back in May 2026, ahead of the finale, the creators were blunt about why they wanted this box set to exist in the first place. Speaking to Deadline, Aniello didn’t sugar-coat her take on streaming's risks—if studios or execs suddenly take against you, your show can just be scrubbed from existence overnight. She described the idea of so much artistic control resting with corporate algorithms (or, worse, random grudges) as “really scary,” especially as media giants keep swallowing each other up.

As Aniello spelled out to Deadline: "And so, we're really hoping to make a Hacks DVD box set, for one. We're trying to make that happen. That's an exclusive. Please go buy it, not because we make any money off of it. We just want to make sure the show stays in existence for as long as DVD players exist."

At that point, only season one of Hacks had ever made it to disc, way back in 2022. There was no official word on a full-series set—the rest of the episodes remained streaming-only and the fate of a physical release was still up in the air.

For a series obsessed with legacy and creative control, there’s real poetry in it finally joining the ranks of box sets you can physically own, not just hope your streaming service keeps around. The disc set drops this autumn, with an exact shipping date expected from Universal before too long.
