After The Marvels, Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani would rather dial back MCU team-ups — fair enough
After The Marvels, Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani thinks the MCU’s oversized team-ups should take a back seat — and she’s told the Revenge Of! podcast why.
Bit of a change of pace in the MCU discussion this week, as Iman Vellani—that’s Ms. Marvel herself—has weighed in on how she hopes the studio uses her character going forward. If you know her from The Marvels or Disney+’s Ms. Marvel, you’re used to seeing Kamala Khan shoulder-to-shoulder with the heavyweights. But Vellani’s got a different angle on where all those big team-ups should be headed.
Less is More for Kamala
When Vellani dropped by the Revenge Of! podcast, she didn’t exactly disguise her feelings about Kamala being signed up for every superhero gathering under the sun. Yes, she had a blast as part of the trio alongside Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau) in The Marvels. But apparently, what Vellani really wants to see is Kamala’s own world get a bigger spotlight, free from another superhero assembly line.
Here’s how she put it on the podcast when asked about the future of her character:
'I think like if we're talking about Ms. Marvel, like I think that's a character who really succeeds in her own world. Like they've been trying to bring her into the X-Men for so long in the comics now. And I think that's fun, and I love seeing her interact with any other superhero, but I just love her own world.'
Vellani expanded that she’s all for Kamala staying in her own lane a bit more, with a story that lets the character’s personal circle and perspective take centre stage. The supporting cast, the Jersey City setting, and that constant gush of Kamala energy—turns out even the actor is hoping all those pieces aren’t lost to endless crossovers and guest appearances.
A Quick Ms. Marvel Catch-Up
And what exactly has Vellani’s Kamala Khan been up to so far in the MCU?
- First appeared in Disney+’s Ms. Marvel series (2022)
- Jumped to the big screen for The Marvels (2023), which also acted as a sequel to the 2019 Captain Marvel film
- Voiced Kamala again for Marvel Zombies, the adult animated series (2025)
- Recently starred in the coming-of-age drama Mouse (2026) outside the MCU
- Set to headline Shiver, a romantic fantasy based on the bestselling novel by Maggie Stiefvater—release window TBA
Iman Vellani is also lined up to star in the romantic fantasy Shiver, adapted from Maggie Stiefvater’s New York Times bestseller.
So, even if Vellani's hoping for less universe-hopping, Kamala Khan fans aren’t exactly going to be short on screen time in the next few years.
