Adults Season 2 Gets FX Premiere Date as Stranger Things Star Joins the Cast

Clear your diary: Adults is back for round two, and there are some rather interesting new faces joining the party. When’s it landing?

FX has finally set a date: Thursday 27 August is when Adults season 2 kicks off. Here’s how it’s all going to work:

• FXX in the US: New episodes airing at 9 p.m. Eastern (that’s 6 p.m. Pacific, if you’re over on the West Coast).
• Hulu: The full season (all eight episodes) drops in one go for US subscribers.
• Disney+ internationally: Folks outside the States can watch there, but best check your local listings for anything odd.
• FXX schedule: Slightly staggered – two episodes each week, so you’re not bingeing everything in one reckless go.

Who’s joining the crew?

The show’s pulling in a good chunk of new guest stars for season 2. The big headline is Gaten Matarazzo—he’s the fella who plays Dustin in Stranger Things. Not the most obvious choice for a Brooklyn flatshare comedy, but that’s what makes it fun. According to co-creator Ben Kronengold, Matarazzo pops up as the younger bloke who nabs Samir’s fake ID—a setup for some ageing-and-identity jokes that’ll probably hit a bit too close to home for the rest of us.

Anything else odd?

One quirky detail: while Hulu’s letting you binge the lot up front, FXX is drip-feeding the episodes to keep the series on everyone’s radar each week. That’s a classic network play, but it does mean the online crowd could be chattering about plot points a bit ahead of the traditional TV audience.

'We wanted to do something a bit offbeat with Gaten’s episode—he’s basically the guy who ends up with Samir’s old fake ID. You think you’re past it, grown up, and then suddenly there’s a fresher-faced version of yourself, probably with a better sense of self,' teases co-creator Ben Kronengold.

Rebecca Shaw and Ben Kronengold are still calling the shots as creators, so expect more of that slightly uncomfortable, very self-aware energy that worked last season. If you wanted more cringe, you’ll get it—and possibly more actors you’ll recognise in each episode than you’d expect for a niche cable show. That’s modern television for you.
