Adria Arjona says Morbius works if you watch it as a comedy, and stays silent on who she plays in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow
Adria Arjona has finally sounded off on Morbius’s box office and critical faceplant, offering a blunt take on Happy Sad Confused ahead of her DC debut.
Letʹs get straight to it: Adria Arjona finally had a proper natter about Morbius — you know, that Sony Marvel spin-off from 2022 that managed to become infamous for all the wrong reasons. She popped up on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, fielding questions about the filmʹs not-so-glorious afterlife and finding the humour in the misfire along the way. Honestly, if you canʹt laugh about your big comic-book blockbuster tanking, what else can you do?
ʺYou live and you learn,ʺ Arjona told Horowitz on the podcast.
Arjona was relaxed about the whole thing, calling the actual shoot 'a great experience' and saying she enjoyed meeting Matt Smith (who, letʹs face it, might have been one of the actual highlights of that film). She wasnʹt shy about addressing the backlash either. Her view? Morbius is worth revisiting if you approach it as an accidental comedy — which, depending on your tolerance for CGI bat swarms and Jared Leto pouting in a dark room, isnʹt completely off the mark.

ʺI think itʹs funny. I think if you look at it with eyes of comedy, I think thereʹs sparks in there,ʺ Arjona said, openly embracing the meme potential her Marvel outing has taken on since release.
There was even a bit where host Josh Horowitz shared a random story about Keanu Reeves watching Morbius on a flight. For a moment, Arjona sounded genuinely worried about how she came across to the John Wick legend, joking about wanting him to think sheʹs actually a decent actor. To be fair, itʹs not every day your work is being scrutinised mid-air by an action icon, is it?
Miserable flop, then onwards
To her credit, Arjona hasnʹt let Morbius define her career. Not even close. Sheʹs had big wins since then, especially as Bix Caleen in the Star Wars: Andor series — received a lot better by, well, everyone. Throw in a major role in Richard Linklaterʹs Hitman with Glen Powell and suddenly itʹs clear: one underwhelming Marvel film isnʹt the career obituary some on Twitter predicted.
Sheʹs lined up now for Adam Wingardʹs action movie Onslaught, a new go at The Thomas Crown Affair, and — maybe most intriguingly — sheʹs got a secret part in James Gunnʹs Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. In fact, Horowitz was so convinced sheʹd be Wonder Woman in that last one, he cheekily bet her $500 on it during the interview. She wouldnʹt say a word, obviously, but the speculation mill is cranking hard now.
