Adam Driver finally breaks his silence, shrugging off Lena Dunham’s memoir claims that he was verbally aggressive on the Girls set and once threw a chair near her.

So, in the latest chapter of famous people saying awkward things about each other, Lena Dunham decided to put some pretty spicy stories in her new memoir about her old Girls co-star, Adam Driver. Now, he’s finally said something about it — kind of — and, like most things Adam Driver does, it was blunt, a little weird, and totally not the answer people were expecting.

The Memoir Bombshells

Let’s start with what Dunham actually wrote. In her book Famesick, Dunham gets real about what it was like filming Girls with Driver. According to her, things weren’t always chill. She says there were times on set when Adam was 'verbally aggressive,' even 'condescending and physically imposing.' One story literally jumps out: she claims that, during a late-night rehearsal in her trailer, she blanked on her lines, and Driver lost it, screaming 'F**KING SAY SOMETHING' and throwing a chair against the wall.

Dunham doesn’t just run him over in the book — she also mentions that he could be 'protective, loving even.' So, to her, he’s basically a human contradiction. Another random detail: she says he punched a hole in the wall of his trailer once — not over a dramatic script moment, but because he hated his new haircut. That’s either extremely method or just a bad day at work.

So What Does Adam Driver Say?

Cut to this weekend, at the Cannes Film Festival, where Driver was promoting his newest film, Paper Tiger. Someone brought up Dunham’s memoir and all those not-so-flattering anecdotes. His response?

'I have no comment on any of that.'

That was it. But because Driver isn’t content to only say seven words when he can squeeze in a dry joke, he added, 'I’m saving it all for my book.' The room apparently got a good laugh, probably because nobody was sure whether to take him seriously or not.

Did This On-Set Drama Ruin Their Partnership?

In case you think this was a war, Dunham actually notes she and Driver 'still felt like partners' during the first season. So, not exactly a blood feud, but definitely some heat behind the scenes.

Where Are They Now?

  • Adam Driver is back on the big screen in the crime drama Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray, with co-stars like Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller.
  • Lena Dunham is apparently just getting started with her public rehashing of old set stories, thanks to Famesick.

If you like a little mess with your prestige TV nostalgia, this story’s got a bit of everything: creative tension, practically cartoonish outbursts (seriously, a chair and a wall?), and plenty of intentionally vague shrugs on the record. If Driver ever drops his own memoir, you know exactly what chapter everyone is flipping to first.
