The wait’s over: the X-Men movie now has a release date and a cast, with Kevin Feige breaking the news at Disney’s D23 Expo.

Brace yourself for this one: after what feels like an age of leaks and speculation, the X-Men film has finally landed an official cast list and even a firm release date. Disney saved this particular showstopper for its splashy D23 Expo – one of those ever-growing corporate parades where everyone expects big Marvel headlines, but still finds something to drop their sandwich over.

X-Men hits UK cinemas on 5 May 2028, right after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Who’s wearing the spandex?

The real headline here isn’t just the date (although, mark your calendar if you must). It’s the genuinely eye-raising cast. Yes, those wild Reddit casting grids were mostly on the money, but some choices are still surprising. If you’ve been following rumblings on Twitter, you’ll recognise a few of these names – but now they’re fully cemented as the new faces of mutant-kind in the MCU:

  • Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue (arguably the biggest curveball; she’d barely been mentioned in the rumour mill until recently)
  • Sadie Sink is Jean Grey (the latest in a long line of gingers forced to play with telekinesis)
  • Kit Connor lands Cyclops (expect a lot of brooding behind spectacles)
  • Samara Weaving becomes Emma Frost (get your diamond skin puns ready)
  • Christopher Abbott gets Professor Charles Xavier (fresh off a string of indie drama oddballs – interesting pivot)
  • Maya Boyd makes her blockbuster move as Storm
  • Adam Driver is going full villain for Nathaniel Milbury, aka Mister Sinister (honestly, brilliant casting here)

What’s it actually about?

That’s the bit they’re keeping completely under wraps. Jake Schreier is directing, but aside from these seven roles, Marvel’s not let slip a single word about the plot. No clues on whether we’re getting a brand new origin for the X-Men, a team already in action, or a loud MCU collision. About as much detail as a fogged-up bathroom mirror. Still, at least we know who to expect when those inevitable teaser trailers drop, and with Avengers: Secret Wars set for 2027, it’s clear X-Men’s getting the prime spot to kick off the next era.
