Aaron Rodgers retold the end of his engagement on a podcast, and Shailene Woodley isn't answering
Aaron Rodgers has aired a stinging claim about ex-fiancée Shailene Woodley and his version of why their nearly two-year engagement collapsed — and it’s messier than you’d think.
Here's one for the messier files of celebrity-romance-meets-tabloid-saga: Aaron Rodgers, NFL star and brief fiancé of actress Shailene Woodley, has gone and spilled a rather personal version of their breakup, and if you're thinking, "Surely he left a few spicy bits out?" — think again. This all cropped up during an episode of Not Just Football, one of those podcasts where the lines between sports chat and personal confessional tend to evaporate completely.
During the chat with Steelers' Cam Heyward, Rodgers said, 'I proposed to Shailene and she said yes. Now, she maybe felt like she was forced to make a decision. She could have said no.'
But according to Rodgers, things soured very shortly after he got down on one knee. He alleged that, just a couple of days on from the engagement, Woodley told him in no uncertain terms that, before tying the knot, she wanted to sleep with another man. Yes, you read that correctly — he actually went there, on the record.
Rodgers then took exception to how the end of their relationship has apparently been presented on Woodley's side, particularly some hints she'd made previously about the breakup wrecking her mental health. In Rodgers' telling, it was Woodley who actually ended things — she took off the ring by March after a December proposal, and even though the pair had a few on-again-off-again moments, nothing stuck. By the time things were officially over in 2022, Rodgers argued there wasn't much left to undo anyway, calling the split a formality rather than a real emotional breaking point.
Addressing all the tabloid chatter, Rodgers said, 'There’s just a lot of narrative out there that isn’t true.'
And if you thought that was the full story, get this: Rodgers is now married to someone else entirely. He confirmed in 2024 that he's with Brittani, and reportedly, they tied the knot in early 2025. He even admitted he wished he'd married Brittani far earlier, saying not proposing to her in 2017 set him 'into a tailspin' of doubt about being a decent partner in relationships.
For those wondering if Woodley has anything to say about this latest round of claims, she's stayed quiet — for now, at least.
By March – three months after the engagement – Woodley had taken off the ring and the couple were finished for good.
