A Reddit horror thread became a novel, and now Lily James is buying the haunted ranch
Seasons has just bolstered its ranks, with Lily James now joined in Companion director Drew Hancock’s supernatural horror thriller by names you’ll recognise.
If you thought the horror genre was running out of ways to make buying a house absolutely terrifying, think again. Seasons, the next supernatural thriller from Drew Hancock (of Companion), just added Wes Studi and Dane DiLiegro to a cast already stacked with names like Lily James, Jack Reynor, Ron Perlman, and Elizabeth McGovern. Yes, it is, in fact, becoming a bit of a who's who of 'faces you recognise from genuinely good films and telly'.
The Nightmare Ranch
The plot for Seasons goes down a road familiar to anyone who's spent too much time on r/nosleep: husband and wife get their hands on a dream ranch, only to find the place is packed with ancient spirits—and they're the kind who make you earn your right to be there. It's not ghostly hijinks with creaky doors and things going bump in the night; it's full-on survival, with the couple forced into increasingly bizarre and unsettling rituals to keep the supernatural peace as the calendar turns.
Lily James is front and centre as the beleaguered wife, with Jack Reynor as her somewhat less lucky other half. If you're wondering who's playing what on the rest of the roster—Perlman, McGovern, Studi, DiLiegro—no one's saying just yet. Studio's keeping those cards close for now. All we know is, if Wes Studi's in your supernatural horror, something intense is probably about to go down.

From Reddit to the Big Screen
Seasons comes from Hancock's own script, itself adapted from the novel Old Country by Matt and Harrison Query. But, and here's where it gets particularly modern-horror, that book started out as a viral sensation—a series of Reddit horror posts penned by Matt Query under 'My Wife and I Bought a Ranch' on r/nosleep. It's gone the full internet-to-paperback-to-major-studio pipeline, which is pretty much how you get a slightly haunted property onto Amazon MGM Studios' plate these days. Worth a nod: this project's been bouncing around for a while—Netflix was originally lined up to produce, but now it's landed in Amazon MGM's paddock. Make of that what you will.

The People Behind the Curtain
If you like reading credits, here's the situation: Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing for 21 Laps (the Stranger Things lot), James Wan and Michael Clear are on for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and the 12:01 Films crew—Scott Glassgold and Dan Cohen—are also attached. Executive producing for Atomic Monster is Judson Scott, while Alayna Glasthal is overseeing things for Amazon MGM. In short: several heavyweights with a taste for genre are steering this ship, which could be promising for anyone who likes their horror a bit less watered-down.
On the Cast and Crew
Wes Studi is one of those actors who immediately makes everything that little bit more credible—his CV stretches from Dances with Wolves and The Last of the Mohicans to Hostiles, Avatar, Penny Dreadful and Hell on Wheels. Dane DiLiegro, meanwhile, is best known for physically demanding creature roles—he was the Predator in Prey, popped up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and even did time in The Walking Dead. Right before he started terrorising people in monster suits, he played pro basketball, which is an unexpectedly handy background when you spend your working life in latex prosthetics.
Release Date? Not Yet
This is Hancock's second round directing film; his first, Companion, drops in 2025, also with his script. Hancock wrote his own way into Hollywood as well, with the post-Barbarian team (Zach Cregger and all) putting their name to his debut. This time, it's less AI-run-amok, more haunted-agriculture. If you're hoping to mark your calendar, though, you might want to put the pen down for a bit—no date for Seasons yet, and the production is still playing things quiet.
There's no official release window for Seasons—Amazon MGM isn't ready to nail down a date.
